We are seeking an experienced
Lead Hand
to join our team and play a key role in delivering high-quality custom homes and renovations. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled construction professional looking to expand their leadership responsibilities and contribute to a respected and growing company.
Position Summary
The Lead Hand works closely with the Site Supervisors to support the successful execution of custom residential construction and renovation projects. This hands-on role requires strong construction knowledge, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality.
The successful candidate will assist with site coordination, perform skilled construction tasks, maintain project documentation, and help ensure projects are completed on schedule and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform skilled construction tasks throughout all phases of residential construction and renovation, including demolition, framing, window installation, insulation, drywall, trim, and finishing work.
• Assist Site Supervisors with the day-to-day coordination of construction activities.
• Ensure projects are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, building codes, and company quality standards.
• Conduct regular site reviews and monitor project progress.
• Identify and proactively resolve issues that may impact schedule, budget, quality, or safety.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and professional job site at all times.
• Coordinate site materials, equipment, and deliveries to support efficient project execution.
• Assist with quantity take-offs and material requirements when required.
• Track and document labour, materials, and approved extras outside the original project scope.
• Support cost-control initiatives, including material returns and equipment rental management.
• Prepare accurate daily and weekly site reports and maintain project documentation.
• Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal team members.
• Monitor workmanship and ensure the quality of all completed work meets Homes by Hendriks standards.
• Assist with tool, equipment, and inventory management.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding company, client, and project information.
• Contribute to team development, continuous improvement initiatives, and company goals.
• Support site setup, temporary facilities, and ongoing site cleanliness throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum 5 years of experience in residential construction, custom home building, or renovations.
• Post-secondary education in construction management, a related field, or a skilled trade is considered an asset.
• Strong working knowledge of residential construction methods, processes, materials, and best practices.
• Solid understanding of the Ontario Building Code.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and construction drawings.
• Skilled in the use of a wide variety of hand and power tools.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
