Cleaner

Sacred Heart School of Halifax is seeking a reliable and conscientious individual to join our Facilities team as a full-time Evening Cleaner, beginning August 31, 2026.
The Evening Cleaner is responsible for helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, families, and visitors. The regular schedule is Monday to Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
Responsibilities
• Clean and disinfect classrooms, offices, washrooms, change rooms, common areas, and other assigned spaces;
• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in hallways, stairwells, entrances, and other areas;
• Empty garbage and recycling containers and replace liners as required;
• Replenish washroom and cleaning supplies;
• Complete scheduled daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal cleaning tasks;
• Perform periodic deep cleaning of classrooms, washrooms, change rooms, hallways, stairwells, and other areas;
• Set up and take down tables, chairs, stages, and other equipment for school events;
• Properly use and care for cleaning tools, equipment, and supplies;
• Report damage, maintenance needs, safety concerns, and supply requirements to the Cleaning Supervisor;
• Assist other members of the Facilities team as required.
Qualifications and Skills
• Previous commercial cleaning or building-cleaning experience is preferred;
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work with limited supervision;
• Strong work ethic and attention to detail;
• Good organizational and time-management skills;
• Able to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team;
• Good communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with students, staff, contractors, and visitors;
• Able to follow cleaning procedures, product instructions, and workplace health and safety requirements;
• Able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing and walking for extended periods, bending, reaching, climbing stairs, moving furniture, and lifting and carrying cleaning supplies and equipment.
The successful candidate will be required to provide satisfactory background screening, including a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and a Child Abuse Register search.
Pay: $18.63-$20.93 per hour
