Retail Sales Associate ? Outdoor & Ski/Snowboard Store

Pay: From CA$18.00/hour (based on experience)
Borderline Outdoor is opening its newest store in Ottawa, and we're building a small, hands-on team to sell and grow it with us. This isn't a stand-behind-the-till cashier job ? we're looking for people who genuinely enjoy talking to customers, know outdoor gear from real use, and want to help a growing local brand get off the ground.
Our Ottawa store covers outdoor lifestyle year-round: camping, glamping, backpacking and hiking in the warmer months, and ski & snowboard gear (plus tuning & waxing) in winter. The best fit is someone who can help a customer picture the gear in real use ? on the trail, at the campsite, or on the hill ? and make the store a place people enjoy walking into.

What you'll do
• Greet and approach customers proactively ? start the conversation, don't wait for it
• Recommend the right gear based on the customer's needs, budget, and how they'll actually use it
• Drive sales and natural add-ons (pair the tent with the pad, the board with the right layers)
• Keep the store sharp: displays, product presentation, and cleanliness
• Help with merchandising, restocking, and day-to-day store operations
• Support event days, promotions, and seasonal setups (summer camping ? winter ski/snowboard)
• Appear in and support our video shoots, photo content, and social media
• Learn the products well enough to explain them clearly and confidently

What you need
• 2+ years of retail or customer-facing sales experience

Real experience with camping
or* skiing/snowboarding ? whether from your own time outdoors or previous work
• Comfortable approaching customers and recommending products, not just answering questions
• Comfortable being on camera and representing the brand on video ? well-presented and professional
• Reliable, organized, and able to keep up in a fast-paced retail floor
• Up for the energy of a new store launch and store setup
• Available for weekends, holidays, and seasonal busy periods
• English required; additional languages (e.g., French) are a strong asset

Nice to have
• Previous experience at an outdoor gear or ski/snowboard shop
• Ski/snowboard tuning or waxing experience
• Comfort with short-form video, social content, or local community engagement
• Familiarity with the Ottawa outdoor scene

People who are proactive, comfortable selling, and can explain gear through real-life use ? happy to get on camera, pitch in on content and events, and excited to help build a growing local outdoor brand rather than just clock in.
